Telephone and Long Distance Information
Most homes are already wired for telephones, so it is simply a matter of choosing a provider. Since February 2006, when a court decision ended KPN’s monopoly on home installations, the choices in providers has grown. Most companies offer a variety of combinations for telephone, internet, and digital television packages. There is usually a connection fee and thereafter either monthly or bi-monthly bills. Calls are not itemized. If you want an itemized bill, you must request and pay for that service. ALL calls, except 0800 numbers, made in the Netherlands result in a charge. 0900 numbers are charged a per minute (typically €,10p) or per call rate.
The international Access Code for dialling outside the Netherlands is "00" To direct-dial the United States (Verenigde Staten) dial 001(area code)(local number).
