Three American quilts, purchased for the Textile Research Center (TRC) in Leiden with funds provided by our AWC, will be displayed at the Clubhouse on Tuesday, November 12 from 10 a.m., with a discussion about the quilts at 11 a.m. The quilts include one made by the Mennonites from c1900, an appliqué quilt from c1860 and a wool Amish quilt from c1940.
Susan Cave negotiated the purchases with reputable dealers in the U.S. The Mennonite and Amish quilts are the first of their kind for the TRC and fill in a number of gaps in its antique quilt collection and the Mayflower exhibition, which will be held in Leiden from February until June 2020.
In addition to the quilts, handmade items from the TRC shop and others made by members Beverley Bennett, Dory Ritchie, and Elaine Pimm will be available for sale. The items include vintage and ethnic pieces and limited edition hand dyed and printed indigo fabrics.
Be sure to bring cash for your purchases. All money will go to the TRC to continue its important work of preserving textiles from around the world.
